Upcoming Events & Meetings

Our community typically meets once a month with occasional breaks over the Summer.

You can expect an array of unique focuses at PBS meetings, including informal discussions about Bonsai species and their specific care. Throughout the year, visiting guest artists will present initial styling demonstrations on specific types of Bonsai trees. Additionally, members of neighboring Bonsai Societies will deliver presentations.

At PBS, members are encouraged to bring a tree with them to meetings to ask questions to the group and work on them together.

GABE FUNKE from the Brandywine Bonsai Club

Gabe will be speaking about native species used for bonsai.

In November, we will have guest speaker Gabe Funke

from the Brandywine Bonsai Society. His upcoming presentation

will focus on his experience with, and research into, various native

species used for bonsai. Gabe is a teacher in Delaware who current-ly

serves as the president.of Brandywine Bonsai Society, which oper-ates

along the border of Delaware and Pennsylvania. He specializes

in collecting and growing native trees as bonsai. His favorite species

include Carpinus caroliniana, Ulmus americana, Fagus grandifolia,

and Pinus virginiana.

Workshops, Demonstrations, and Classes

  • Introduction to the Art of Bonsai which will meet at the Morris Arboretum & Gardens Horticulture Center at Bloomfield Farm on Morris February 20 2027. at 1:30 PM. Using Native American Trees.

  • Mt. Cuba Bonsai Class: Saturday, March 20 in 2027 (10am-1pm), inclement weather date the next week. 

  • A Dawn Redwood Bonsai Forest demonstration given by PBS Member Brian Tuel during the 2027 Philadelphia Flower Show.

  • A demonstration and class with PBS Member Brian Tuel at the Japanese Society of Philadelphia. Will take place around the Shofuso reopening and before the opening festival.
